By Lana Myerson

We have been told that for weight loss to occur, dieting is important. When we say dieting, we mean taking in less food than we would normally take. Weight loss is the natural consequence of reducing the number of calories. And this information is correct. Dieting is the other half of a successful fat loss program. Exercise completes the picture in one's quest to lose the excess fat.

However, a lot of people apparently associate dieting with food deprivation. And this is one of the culprits behind the failure of "weight loss diets." The thought of excessive calorie restriction scares people to such an extent that they have already quit even before they have begun. It's sheer torture when you think of depriving yourself when food is abundant and readily available. The problem lies in a misconception of the essence of dieting for weight loss but no matter how wrong the perception is, the truth remains that approaching dieting from the standpoint of calorie reduction alone is not only inadequate, it's detrimental.

Those trying to lose weight must realize that it is possible lose the flab without having to go on a diet. This might raise a lot of doubts at first, especially when we're talking about a method that does not involve pills or surgery of any kind.

The no-diet approach to weight loss still involves eating but the idea is to eat the food that won't make you fat and avoid those that can add on the pounds. When you eat the right kinds of foods, weight loss will come naturally. Of course, exercise is necessary if you want to tone your muscles and hasten the weight loss process. So aside from eating right, cardiovascular workouts, strength training, core stability and flexibility exercises must be made part of any weight loss program.

So, what can you eat in the no-diet approach to winning the battle of the bulge? Basically, everything that's grown from the earth. We're talking about fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

The earth is abundant with bananas, apples, pears, carrots, celery, broccoli and other fresh produce. If you can get them organic, that's an added plus. Stick with whole grains like bran, oatmeal and wheat.

Potatoes have received a lot of flak lately, thanks mostly to French fries in fast food chains. If you bake--rather than fry-them, you'll be receiving the many nutrients potatoes offer. Thus, learning ways of cooking vegetables healthily should also be part of your weight loss regimen. The good thing about eating fruits and veggies is that you can have as much as you want and not gain a pound. On the contrary, the more you eat of Mother Earth's produce, the more you are giving your body antioxidants to fight of aging and disease.

What foods cannot be eaten under this no-diet regimen for weight loss? Processed foods or those that have been subjected to man-made changes should be avoided. These include those donuts, sodas, pastries and chips that you always go to when you have your sugar or salt cravings.

Eat the right kinds of food and wean yourself from the wrong ones and see your body transform as you lose the excess pounds.
