The Procedure Of Facelift

By Gill Christ

There is a surgical procedure known as facelift which works on reducing visible signs of aging in the face and neck like, sagging in the midface, deep creases below the eyelids, droopy upper eyelids, jowls, deep cheek folds, baggy and loose lower eyelids, among others in order to give that youthful appearance you want. You may still be young but want to age gracefully or you may just want to delay the process of aging by reducing wrinkles a facelift is for you. You should not hope for a change in your fundamental appearance or stoppage of the aging process because it doesn't do this.

A facelift can only be performed surgically because non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot achieve the same results. The decision to have this procedure done should be yours and you should not do it to please somebody or fit in to any sort of ideal image. Facelift surgery is a good option for you if you are physically healthy, do not smoke and have a positive outlook and realistic goals for the improvement of your appearance.

It surgically reduces wrinkles thereby making your face younger. Emphasis is put on looking natural, refreshed and rejuvenated rather and not on other things like tightness. It majorly emphasizes on making sure all parts of your face look alike in age.

The procedure involves removal of excess facial skin and redraping the skin on your face and/or neck without tightening underlying tissue. There are many ways of having a facelift done but the most common one is making an incision in front of the ear which is extended into the hairline and also curves around the bottom of the ear and then behind it. Deeper tissues are then used to separate the skin with the help of a scalpel or scissors over the cheeks and neck which generally takes several hours but may vary depending on the complexity of the procedure.

The deeper tissues are then tightened with sutures or stitches and sometimes the excess deeper tissues are removed. The skin is then redraped and some excess skin is removed. The incisions are then sutured or stapled.

If you are looking for the best and most natural results then you can have the facelift done together with other procedures. Browlift, upper and/lower eyelid reduction, facelift and or necklift and skin resurfacing are but a few of the procedures that can go hand in hand with facelift. Having a facelift can improve your life in ways you can never imagine so don't be scared, just consult your surgeon and follow his instructions before and after the surgery.
