It took me a while to realize just how important it is to focus on quality over quantity.
Perhaps it's the society we live in where typically more is better and getting free things is an enticing offer. It's easy to get wrapped up in going for the cheapest thing on the table because it's sometimes the most accessible thing to grab onto. Thing is, this does not challenge you. This does not help you grow.
I am a firm believer that there are some things in our lives that will be forever out of our reach until we start changing fundamental pieces of ourselves. When we bring the best out in ourselves, we open up new avenues and opportunities to be explored. But this only happens when we challenge ourselves to be something that we've never been before.
I believe the great majority of people are disappointed in life not because they aim too high and miss, but because they aim too low and hit.
In order to become someone you've never been, you have to be willing to do things and act in ways you never have before.
You have to be willing to keep yourself accountable, honest, and act with integrity at all times.
Above all, you must be willing to continuously raise the bar for yourself in order to become something great. Good is never good enough. Excellence is the goal.
It's amazing the disconnect that happens when people search for happiness. What's interesting however, is that when you don't seek it...it actually comes to you. I did not search for happiness at all. However, I did not partake in the standard "just be satisfied" rubbish either. What I did was work on improving upon myself, doing the things which I knew would make me a more fulfilled person, and when it was right, I let happiness find me.
There is so much material out there about being happy, but one thing that is for sure is when you start "trying" to be happy it will always elude you.
The bedrock of your greatest self will be built on sacrifice. Are you really willing to do the things today that others do not do? Are you willing to do the things that you know you are really capable of but are very tough? It is hard to look yourself in the face often and say, "I'm going to compete with my potential today."
Sacrifice is what will make you great.
Make something of yourself today.
