Negative Emotions And The Frying Pan Of Life

By Evan Sanders

Sizzle.

Somethings cooking on that pan.

Step out onto the street and ask 100 different people what their main purpose in life is and they will probably give you an answer relating to the idea of happiness.

Of course happiness is a fantastic thing, but really how do you manage to get it? How do you go about living your life in a way that guarantees your happiness?

When we are truly happy, we are just happy.

When we are happy we are just happy. But when we are suffering in any way, we try to fix it, change it, manipulate it and get it as far away as possible. We try to rid ourselves from these bad feelings quickly in order to hopefully get back to happiness, but that never really works.

There's significant danger in this type of behavior because if you create a false ladder of ascension, you will always come across life's wondrous way of ripping the rug out from beneath you at the most inconvenient time. When that happens, you will try to take a step back on the ladder rung below only to find that it isn't there.

Down. Down. Down to the bottom of the ladder.

Bang. Knocked out. In pain. Life is miserable.

So what can you do to avoid this?

It's time to bring in the "frying pan analogy." Essentially, the frying pan of life is those hard and dark moments in your life that scare you a little. The goal here: get close to them. Get close enough to those moments that you can experience the thoughts, emotions, and feelings surrounding them but stay far enough away so you don't get completely overwhelmed by them and take yourself out of the game.

Going through this process will really allow you to heal.

A little bit of chaos and some madness are good things to have around. They bring out some energy in you and can help you rather than hurt you.

Many think that only good places create good feelings. Nevertheless, happiness, love, compassion, those all critical characteristics we want for ourselves, can come from the darkness, chaos, and a little bit of madness. We believe that darkness only implies darkness. But could there be the presence of light, joy, and positive emotions even in the roughest moments of our lives?

Be brave enough to do this.

So maybe we should not be searching for happiness in the first place. Maybe we should be on a journey to discover as much about ourselves as possible and come to the darker places with understanding and serious compassion.

So how about you try it out? It could change your entire life.
