Meet Pastor David Oloo Of The Good Shepard Ministries

By Marci Nielsen

The Good Shepard Ministries is located in the city of Kisumu, which is in Kenya, East Africa. The house of worship is located in Homa Bay, Kenya, which is approximately seventy miles away by land or thirty six miles by Lake Victoria. The house of worship was called Christ Faith Evangelical Church, but the church is in the process of change. They are pleased to announce their new name, the Good Shepard House of Worship. Pastor David Oloo is the senior pastor at the Good Shepard House of Worship and also served in this capacity at the predecessor church beginning in 2007.

Pastor Oloo worked diligently from 2005 to 2008 to establish an orphanage in Homa Bay for twenty five children. Many of the children became orphans after their parents passed away from AIDS. Thanks to the Pastor and his associates these innocent children now have safe, Christian homes. The continued funding for the orphanage has since changed hands, but the work continues.

Through the support of an American, in 2010 the church was able to buy some land in Homa Bay and build its house of worship. Amazingly, the building was finished by 2011. The generous benefactor continues to contribute to the church, which can accommodate six hundred of the faithful for services.

Kisumu is a port city, culturally rich and naturally beautiful. The population is slightly more than four hundred thousand. Kisumu has a fascinating museum and it is a great way to learn about the history and the culture of the area. It has an impala sanctuary, which is also home to other animals such as hippos and cheetahs that are native to the Kenya. The city has raised the environmental awareness and prides itself on preserving the papyrus wetlands around Dunga Beach.

In the community, David Oloo is well known for his work to benefit children and the community. His father, Bishop Nashon Oloo has worked on some projects, such as the orphanage, with Pastor Oloo. The Good Shepard Ministries share the teachings of the Christian faith as practiced in the Western hemisphere. Their Baptism is with full water immersion, and they believe firmly that the bible is the word of God.

The Good Shepard Ministries has a website that recommends some links and reading. They have observed the differences between the Western and the African ideas about the management and purposes of money. The recommended reading is to help bring the cultures together and eliminate misunderstandings due to the conflicting perspectives about money.

David is humble and acknowledges the hand of God in all his personal achievements. Whatever a minister manages to accomplish in his work for the Lord, he will always credit God with those accomplishments. Minister believes that it takes the help of God to make these good things happen.

To visit Kisumu would be a wonderful opportunity to get to know the people, the land and the ministries. There is nothing like this land and this culture in America. The pictures of Lake Victoria give you an idea of what it would be like to see the sunset in Kisumu. Pastor Oloo is thankful for all these blessings.
