How Omega 3 Benefits The Body

By Nancy Myers

After many years of extensive research, it has been concluded that human health is highly dependent on the presence of omega 3 fats in the body. Whereas other kinds of fats may be harmful and undesirable in the body, these ones are needed very much. They derived from animal as well as plant tissues, and many Americans spend billions to acquire them. In this article, one will find information regarding omega 3 benefits that make these fats important.

Omega-3s that are in high demand by the body are of two types, docosahexaenoic and eicosapentaenoic acid. The two types are abbreviated as DHA and EPA in that order. Both EPA as well as DHA are extracted from tissues of animals, including fishes and krill. Alpha-linoleic acid, ALA, is the other omega-3, but it is less significant than the first two. This one is extracted from plant tissues. Common plants from which it is extracted include hemp, chia, and flaxseed.

ALA can be converted into DHA and EPA by the body. However, the process takes a long time and only occurs to a very low ratio regardless of the amount consumed. Most health benefits associated with omega-3s are as a result of animals-based DHA and EPA and not plant-based ALA. That makes it important to consume more animal-based omega-3s.

Omega-3s are some of the most vital essential nutrients that are needed in the body for proper functioning. Chances of death from virtually any health condition are increased if one has the fats in low amounts in their bloodstream. Those who consume these nutrients in significant amounts are better off than those who do not.

Anxiety and depression are fought effectively by omega-3s according to research findings. These are very bad mental disorders that are associated with adverse emotional and physical effects. These disorders affect people less if they have enough omega-3s in their bodies. Those who are already affected can improve significantly by consuming these fats.

Retinas and brains are composed of various components, which include omega-3 fatty acids. A deficiency of the fats in the body cause eye problems to develop. Macular degeneration has been found to occur more in individuals whose blood level of DHA is low. Macular degeneration is a bad eye condition that causes permanent damage and blindness.

Communities that consume fish in large quantities suffer fewer deaths from stroke and heart attacks. This is because omega-3s are contained in large amount in fish. Omega-3 fatty acids are linked to many benefits for heart health. The benefits include reduction in blood clots, inflammation, plague, blood pressure, and triglycerides. The fats prevent blood platelets from clumping together and increase the amounts of HDL-cholesterol in body.

ADHD symptoms in kids are also improved by omega-3s according to research findings. Children with lower blood levels of omega-3 tend to suffer from ADHD more. If the child consumes these fats, they experience a reduction in symptoms such as impulsiveness, and hyperactivity. Other health problems that can be corrected or affected by these fats are skin health, autoimmune disease, menstrual pain, bone and joint health, and asthma.
