Merits Of Davis Bacon Projects

By Donald Clark

The construction industry is not an easy industry to work in. It is both tiresome and dangerous. It however remains as a necessity for the whole world. This means the workers in the industry play a vital role. Therefore, there is a necessity to make sure that they are well looked after. This is why the Davis Bacon projects are so vital. It mainly aims to ensure an hourly wage payment for mechanics and workers doing local public works.

James J. Davis was the founder of the act and it was named after him. With the signing of the president Hoover in 1931 the act was passed by congress. In short, it made it essential prevailing wage be paid to workers working on particular projects. This was mainly meant for those contractors or subcontractors that were working on local public or federal constructs that had exceeded a particular excess. This had a massive number of merits to these workers. These merits soon spread throughout the community, affecting a large group of people. Some of these merits are listed below.

To the workers, it gives them the power to get control of their finances. An hourly work system works on the principal of more work more pay. This would enable the employee to work harder for better pay. By working harder they are bound to gain skill. Consequently, there should be fewer injuries in the work place. This will make for happier and better workers. Additionally, through hard work they can change their lifestyle for the better.

The businessman who employees these workers is bound to reap many benefits. The projects are often demanding and tedious. However, this means that the business is likely to receive a better skilled workforce in return. Moreover, the pay of these constructions is often good. This will make the employees happier leading to better work. This would be good for the firm as more people are bound to spot their work.

Most of the public amenities are constructed using tax money. This means they are the real employers. It would make these people happy to see that their money is being put to a good use. They are bound to feel a lot better about paying them, once they find out that they make the life of a fellow citizen better.

The economy is also bound to reap the benefits of this program. It brings about more jobs in the market. Consequently, this would mean more money in circulation. This should make things cheaper for everyone. Moreover, it would also mean more tax collection that can be spent on more projects. This should make for a better economy by increasing the national income output every day.

Finally, the community as a whole is also bound to gain the benefits. They will enjoy the benefits of having a skilled and hardworking construction workforce. This would mean more social amenities such as public schools can be put up at faster rates. There would also be some job security that is bound to reduce crime and improve productivity of the whole community.

It is easy to see how one act can have such a big influence on a whole nation. Therefore, the construction workforce and nation in general have a lot to be thankful for.
