Should have the licensed and the right amount of bond. A new law was just recently implemented. It states that freight brokers must have a 75,000 dollars bond, if not, their business will be close down. So, ensure that the professional whom you are about to work with has that certain amount of bond.

How many years has it already been operating the said business. An experience of a person or a company varies upon the years of services of the business. This is an important factor that should be considered. When a broker is successful you can truly say that he or she has the experience you needed.

Know if one is multi modal or not. If possible, only go to those that are multi modal. This means, they do the service not only nationally but globally. Check how their operation works. Consider those that offers multiple services. Your goal is to find those who are good at backing up in case shortages happens.

Four, their way of pricing. Most business owners would say that cheaper is better, but it is not always the case. When both parties agreed that the price is going to be this or that, make sure to have them in writing. It must have all the breakdown cost like the accesorial charges on shipment. This is your proof that you will only be paying that much.

Five, know how they select their carriers. Do a background check of the professional and see how they work such as choosing the carriers. Check their safety records, reputation, and how long their business has been standing. Also, how many drivers and trucks do they own, these kinds of questions must be asked.

Must posses good communication skills. Keep in mind that they are going to be the ones who would look for a carrier for the company. That means, they will be representing your company as well along with their drivers, so they must posses good communication skills to know how to answer and talk to other people for a successful negotiation and to promote the company.

If they offer cargo insurance. Only hire when they offer cargo insurance. Cargo would sometimes have problems and the only way to save yourself in case such event will happen is when you have the insurance as this will cover all the cost for the damages. If they have, find out what are the claims you could get, how much the cover is, and so does the deductibles.
