Helpful Tips For Surviving A Laundromat From Wash Dry Fold Altamonte Springs

By Eric Johnson

When you are on a tight budget, buying a washer and dryer can seem like a luxury. Clothes still have to be cleaned however, which means going to a laundromat for most people. Laundromats are not usually luxurious. They can be hot and crowded. The change machines may or may not work. The Wash Dry Fold Altamonte Springs branch has some suggestions for surviving your next laundromat visit.

Sort and soak before you go. If your goal is to get in and out of the laundromat as soon as possible, you need to do all the preliminary stuff before you get there. This means sorting your clothes into lights, darks, and delicates. If you need to soak something because it has a stain, you can do that in your own kitchen or bathroom. Travel as light as possible, taking only detergent, bleach, and fabric softener with you.

Try going at off hours. That doesn't mean you should be making a trip to the laundromat in the middle of the night. You can figure that the weekends and after normal working hours are the busiest times. In the middle of the day, you may be able to find several machines empty, so you can wash and dry everything at the same time instead of one load at a time.

You have no idea what the last person to use the washer had in it. You need to wipe down the interior of the washing machine and the dryer before you use them. Be sure to conduct a smell test. This is not for mildew or mold. It is for possible bleach residue left by the last person to use the machine. A load of dark clothes can be ruined if you don't.

Never assume the change machine is working. You'll end up going door to door trying to get change because the machine is spitting bills back out. Bring plenty of quarters with you. It will save you lots of time. You need to check the settings on the appliances before you turn them on. The hot setting might not be what you want.

It should go without saying that you never leave your clothes unattended, but people do it all the time. It may be boring, and hot, sitting and watching your clothes go through the cycles, but you never know who else might be watching them and waiting for you to leave. There is probably a big sign on the laundromat wall saying they aren't responsible for anything.

Take a big trash bag if the weather is bad, and laundry baskets if it's not. You need to put your folded clothes in the basket instead to stuffing them back in your laundry bag. The clothes that need to be hung to dry can be draped over the top of the basket.

If you have to use a laundromat, you need to make the job as painless as possible. Preparation and organization are key. A trip to the laundromat is great motivation for saving enough money to buy your very own washer and dryer.
