Infrared Lamps Can Be Used At Home For Therapy

By Thomas Collins

Infrared lamps are devices that emit infrared radiation and are used for various purposes. Most commonly they are used in radiant heating or communication, such as in remote control devices or optical fibers. In addition, they are very popular in night vision devices or in the aid of chemical analysis of gases and liquids.

For healing, they function by sending invisible infrared light waves to your body. Once it is on, it will feel like a subtle heat on your body. However, it will penetrate the tissues that you need to heal, helping to improve your blood circulation, as well as hydration and oxygenation of that particular area.

They look like large and red incandescent bulbs of 250 Watts and most of them can also emit red, orange and yellow light. For the best results, avoid clear and halogen bulbs. What you want is the reddish one, but take note that the bulb's color could vary from yellow to a deep red. Note that you can get a ready-made infrared heat lamp or buy the bulb and socket separately. Use them with great care as they are quite fragile.

Infrared heat lamps can be used at home to manage some issues you may have, mostly skin problems or pain relief. For skin, it can be of use as anti-aging and rejuvenation treatment, or for various other issues: acne, wounds, infections, rashes, etc. Also, the costs for them are minimal.

For pain relief, make sure you place the lamp to a chair or bed, somewhere easy to access. Sit at least 18-24 inch away from the lamp, using the heat on the side of your body, not above you. Make sure to use eye protection, such as goggles or glasses that can block infrared light. Let the lamp heat the area you need to work on as much as you can tolerate and move slightly every few minutes. You will need to use it for 15 to 20 minutes per session for up to 3 sessions per day, unless you need to use it for your head, when you cannot exceed 10 min per session.

For skin anti-aging place the lamp as above, with you sitting at around 12-22 inch from it. Do not keep the heat on the area for more than 6 minutes and repeat it each 2 or 3 days. It is also important to use eye protection and to let the skin heal and not use the lamp every day.

For other skin problems you need to use it the same as described above for anti-aging. The great thing is that the lamp can kill antibiotic-resistant infections and this will help speed up the healing process.

If you are wondering when the results will appear, for pain relief you will start feeling it immediately. For skin issues, it will take a bit more time, but in 1 to 2 weeks you will notice the skin being healthier. Fine lines will start to disappear in the first 2 to 6 weeks. In 4 months you will see a big difference in how your skin looks like and will notice the wrinkles starting to disappear.
