Discover The Uses Of Laser Etching

By Steven Scott

Wood etching could be done with all kinds of tools from burners to chisels. Depending on the persons preference and expected result will be according to the materials and tools they wish to use. Gouges and chisels will give a deeply engraved and nice design while others will give a much lighter design. Burners will give a dark and nice line depending on the materials. There are many factors to consider when doing wooden art laser etching but the process can easily be done if the process has been understood in the first place.

When the engraving is already completed, sand down all the surfaces that are carved. Simply use a sand paper that have a thin grit and lightly sand around the edges and corners of the lines on the carved surface. This will remove all the splinters and chips are the sanding. If you have use a dremel or burner, then this step is not required.
The sanding must be wiped down with a tack cloth. This process must be done especially if you have used a dremel, chisel or gouge. If there is dust and dirt left on the material, it will get trapped when the coating is going to be applied later on. If there is no tack cloth, a soft and damp towel will suffice.

To transfer the custom design, use a graphite paper. Simply put the graphite paper right over the wood while upside down. Secure with painters tape and sketch the logos right on top of a paper. The graphite paper should be removed once its over and have it imprinted on the material.

If necessary, the surface should be sanded. This process will make it easier for the equipment and tools to glide across the surface. To ensure that it is sanded properly, use a medium grit sandpaper. If the materials has been purchase from a craft store, then make sure to check the surfaces if its already been smoothen out.

It is important to remember that when applying the coats, there should be enough time to let them dry. This step should not be overlooked. Take the time to let the coating dry up before applying the next sets. If the coats are being applied hastily and not yet dried, it will turn out tacky and untidy.

Doing it yourself may seem to be a good idea. However, this can only be done if you possess a vast knowledge about etching. There are things that needs to be handled carefully and should not be taken lightly especially if your purpose is to make money out of it.

While it may be good to do the process by yourself without any use of equipment, the time to consume to create just one is too long. With lasers, what could be done in a few hours can easily be done in minutes. Investing in one will make your production more productive.
