Anti Aging Formulas Are Big Business Today

By Sarah Mendez

As the world's population includes more and more people over middle age, anti aging techniques have come to the forefront of medical research, the cosmetic industry, and the news. People exercise more, pop vitamins and minerals, slather on the latest fad creams, and use supplemental hormones supposed to extend the vigor and appearance of youth. What is more, they are willing to pay for whatever it is that they feel will help them stay young.

Nutrition is one field where fad diets and sound research mingle. The perception that youth is better than middle age and beyond leads many to juice their vegetables, avoid carbohydrates, eat only raw foods, cut sweets out altogether as the French beauties advise, or pop hand-fulls of vitamin and mineral pills. Gurus seem to have the vitality of teenagers and the agility that elderly folks traditionally lose.

Currently, although injections can still be obtained, most HGH is taken in pill form or found in facial creams and lotions. The low dosage of HGH in these preparations is considered safer than the larger amounts in most injections. Research has also revealed how much supplementation is advisable and in what ways it is effective.

The cosmetic industry is founded on the belief that a woman's beauty is enhanced by make up and preserved by moisturizers, toners, cleansers, and sunscreens. Although soap and water do a good job of cleansing the skin, they also leave it dry and tight. Dry skin is generally believed to wrinkle faster, so women slather on creams to seal in the natural moisture of their skin while they pamper their complexions with special formulas.

The billions of dollars spent annually on things to keep skin looking younger longer testify to the desire women have to keep their youthful beauty. Advertising dollars add to the amount people are willing to spend in the battle against the appearance of old age.

Youth is coupled with the 'ideal weight', firm muscles and body tone, and suppleness of the spine and the joints. Spas and health clubs, yoga instructors, and hundreds of diet promoters keep in business because of the perception that life is better for the young.

The natural supplement industry promises less drastic but no less effective help in the battle against old age. Medical science allows doctors to replace hips and knees and elbows, operate on tendons and hearts, and prescribe pills to fight common ills of the elderly like insomnia, poor digestion, constipation, and loss of bladder control. All of these are billion-dollar-a-year industries.

Anti aging is big business in this day and age.
