By Marie M. Clarke

Krav Maga mainly focuses on self-defence. It was designed in such a way so that the teaching part can be done quickly, and both trainers and trainees do not have to invest a lot amount of time. This is still used by Israeli forces. This technique makes one efficient in self defense skills which is based on natural movements of the body and can be used in everyday's life, and it helps to deal with attack in the fastest and effective manner. This technique got its origin from street-fighting skills and with time it got refined for civilian, police and military applications.

These Training classes run only for a few months, and can be practiced by both adults and children. The only prerequisite to join the classes is to have passion towards this martial art form. People from all walks of the society are aware of the benefits of these training classes. The growing number of crimes in the society and the insecurity surrounding the common lives are the factors that drive people towards it's training classes. Earlier, it's training classes were restricted to the minority of the population that were keen to be employed in armed forces or police departments, but today, this martial arts form has become an essential skill to be acquired by anybody for self defense.

The main motive is to make the practitioner expert enough to make the moves perform without hesitation and thinking. Every practitioner is made to perform under real world combat conditions. It involves wrestling, grappling and striking techniques. The major techniques of Krav Maga include punches, basic kicks, strikes using knees and elbows. In this simple moves are easy to stop moves of the attacker and intellectual striking methods can be used in real situations. This technique is widely used by women, as age, height, weight of an individual is not at all the problem, and moreover it provides fitness, weight loss and empowerment. This is used to blow the sensitive parts of the attackers. Some of the training techniques include practicing with different weapons like Hand guns, M-16, paint ball gun, knives, sticks etc. Some institutions provide this training to escape from attacks of militants and suicide bombers. This art mainly teaches to think creatively and act wisely.

These Training classes are incomplete without personality training. The course focuses on the holistic development of the persona, which aims to prepare him/her physically and emotionally. At the end of the training, the person acquires a physically fit body, controlled mind and a set of tactics that helps him face any challenge that comes on his/her way. The classes are categorized on the basis of different belt levels. The first four levels - yellow, orange, green and blue - focus on over hundred joint lock and chokehold variations. The most advanced level is the black belt that gives the necessary training to prepare the candidate for professional security jobs and/or military appointments.

There are several institutes across the world offering it's Training classes. A professionally run training class will have a team of qualified instructors who have been Krav-Maga certified from Security Industry Authority (SIA). The certification entitles that the person is capable of imparting the right training to the aspirants. The qualification and experience of the trainer is of foremost value considering the vulnerable nature of the course. A professionally qualified trainer can educate his/her wards about the pros and cons of different types of strikes as well as make them aware of the potential dangers that would confront them while practicing such techniques. This knowledge can be acquired only through practice and years of experience in the discipline. It's techniques are taught at different levels of hierarchy. White belt is being the lowest in the rank & black belt is being the highest in rank.

Also, realize that many martial arts centers have KM classes, but may not have "Krav Maga" in the name of their school. Fitness clubs or gyms may have KM classes as part of their programs as well.Another good resource for KM schools are the association web sites. Check out Krav Maga Association of America and look under "locations." You will find over 240 training centers across the country. You can also do a similar search at the Krav Maga Federation site. And the Worldwide Directory of these Clubs has an excellent listing of classes and studios.

If there is not a studio close to you, try attending a workshop that is traveling to a nearby city. Commando Krav Maga led by Moni Azik has workshop dates all around the country. It might be a great way to learn a few moves in an intensive weekend that you can practice for months to come.Another alternative to a physical studio is a KM training video. While not as optimal as a live class, it may be your only option due to location and price concerns. There is even a KM BootCamp that is a private membership site online if a physical institute is not a viable option.Besides location, other factors that affect your training are schedule and cost. Most KM schools will post their schedule on their website, but it is always a good idea to call first before you drop in. Schedules change over time, and you may be looking at an old KM schedule from a previous semester. Most centers will also post the price on their web site, but again call to verify. Lots of studios will offer free introductory classes to make sure Krav is for you. The costs of KM classes vary widely according to whether they are live classes, videos, or traveling workshops.

It is famous for putting the main focus on using efficient and violent counter-attacks to neutralize attackers in the fastest manner as possible. This self defense system was founded by Imi Lichtenfeld, an Hungarian-Israeli martial art practitioner.Imi was well versed in boxing and wrestling and he developed his skills further to become Krav Maga as a tool to defend the Jewish residentials from the advancing fascists movement in Bratislava during the 1930s.

Imi relocated to Israel in the 1940s and began to teach his combat system. Imi's method was then adopted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as its official hand-to-hand combat style.Over the decades, it has been refined greatly not only for the military and the police but for civilians as well. With the growing number of street crimes, more and more people are turning to learn it as a tool for self defense. The Israeli self defense system is suitable for street crime situations. Its core principle is to finish a fight as soon as possible. Due to this, all attacks under this system are directly aimed on the most vulnerable body parts, such as the neck, groin, knee, armpits and joints.

When I met Raphael, I could see that he was younger than the rest of the martial artists I had interviewed. During the interview, however, I saw someone who was direct, confident, passionate and self-motivated. I sensed that he likes to be occupied and that to do nothing would simply frustrate him. There was also a'rawness' to his nature and a great desire to move forward in his life.I would say that the success he already has in his life, coupled with the mentality that he has, will lead to greater and bigger successes for Raphael.Views From Raphael Yadgaroff,Firstly, I would like to thank Oliver for taking the time to interview me. Oliver is a very good at conducting interviews. His laid back approach and calm attitude puts you at ease and allows you to just answer the questions without worrying about how you sound. I wish him great success in the future.
